Strategic Plan

Organizations actively planning for their futures stand a greater chance of achieving success than those which operate on a short term basis. During the fall and winter of 2002-03 the New Brunswick Arts Board successfully completed its first three-year strategic action plan and began work on the new three-year outlook set forth in this document.

This planning exercise enabled the Board to assess its results to date and to establish orientations and anticipated courses of action over the coming years. To assist the Board in this exercise, a facilitator set out a framework and a planning committee was established to oversee the process. All Board members remained actively involved in the development of this strategic plan; planning sessions held in October 2002 and January 2003 were followed up by further discussions and consultations during the winter months.[1]

In October 2002, at an initial working session held in Edmundston, the Board decided to focus on organizational development of the NBAB within the broad societal plan for the arts encompassed in the Cultural Policy for New Brunswick (adopted in February 2002). The strategic directions set out below flow naturally from the objectives set out in the cultural policy document.

A SWOT analysis provided the baseline for the planning committee’s discussions. At a December 2002 meeting in Moncton, key concepts suggested by the group led to a vision statement for the New Brunswick Arts Board. The values, mission and strategic directions set out below integrate the cumulative discussions and responses from the Board members. Each has had the opportunity to comment upon and to make recommendations, and to rank the strategic initiatives in order of priority for the next three years. A three-year operational plan attached as an appendix to this document forms the agenda for board activities and employee work plans over the next three years.
